About the Role
We are constantly seeking new ways to transform ourselves and our role in disinfection and are currently on the lookout for a Microbiology Lab Technician that shares our passion for safety, biosecurity, infection control, sustainability, and education.
As a member of our Research and Development team, the Microbiology Lab Technician is responsible for setting up microbiology tests based on standard test methods and protocols. This includes making of new stock, preparing test culture, analyzing data and reporting them in a timely manner, upkeep of the lab, equipment and work area, and ensuring materials are properly used and discarded according to standard protocols, regulations and company’s policies.
A day in the life of a Microbiology Lab Technician might include…
- Conducting and tracking microbial efficacy tests against various bacteria, spore, fungi and mycobacteria based on standardized test methods.
- Making new stock culture of any microorganism used for in-house testing, as needed.
- Preparing, sterilizing materials, sanitizing, and validating (if required) the equipment used to conduct the microbial testing.
- Preparing media, test samples, and reagents used in various testing.
- Participating in troubleshooting test results and lab equipment.
- Updating, optimizing and quality-controlling standard operating procedures in collaboration with the Director, Microbiology.
- Participating in various internal and external research projects involving microorganisms.
- Managing inventory of lab materials and stock culture of microorganisms and contact suppliers for ordering when needed.
- Perform monthly bioburden test of DI water sample received from QC.
- Coordinating and handling disposal of biohazardous waste.
- Providing detailed, accurate and up-to-date records of tests results in designated lab notebooks.
- Maintaining and updating the relevant documentation.
- Preparing R&D samples and performing other liquid chemistry tests.
- Conducting accurate assays and titrations using proper analytical methods.
- Actively participating in all required investigations and troubleshooting initiatives.
- Other projects and duties, as assigned.
Does this sound like you?
- Post-secondary education in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or other related academic fields.
- 2 years of professional experience with bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi, or viruses.
- Ability to maintain a safe work environment, follow instructions, utilize aseptic technique, Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
- Great attention to details, precision, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Self-starter; able to work in teams and independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and coordination skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
What’s in it for you?
- The expected compensation for this position ranges between $50,000.00 and $60,000.00 per year.
- This position is required to work onsite.
- Paid time off between December 25th and January 1st each year, for all permanent full-time staff.
